Scholarship Information for 2024

The Maine East High School Athletic Booster Club will award scholarships to at least one Senior each year. The scholarships will be awarded for the pursuit of higher education and not limited to traditional 2 yr./4 yr. colleges - any type of trade school (auto, beauty, etc.) is also included in this opportunity. The purpose of the award is to recognize athletic participation, team contribution, sportsmanship, and commitment. These awards will be presented at the annual “Senior Honors Night”.

The eligible applicant is a senior athlete in a varsity or junior varsity sport, student athletic trainer, team manager, or former athlete who provides extraordinary assistance or support to the Maine East athletic program during his/her senior year.

Please return the completed application and all the required attachments to the Athletic Department by noon on Friday, April 19, 2024. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that all documents are complete and submitted. Qualification criteria for the Maine East High School Athletic Booster Club Scholarship are:

  • The applicant’s family must be a paid member of the Maine East High School Athletic Booster Club for all 4 years in attendance with the following exceptions:

o  Students transferring into Maine East will need to have membership beginning the first year they attend Maine East through senior year.

  • The applicant must maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average. The applicant’s GPA will be verified by his/her guidance counselor after submission of the application.

  • The applicant must be able to take full advantage of the scholarship during the next calendar year. Financial need is not a consideration.

  • The applicant will be ineligible to receive the scholarship if at the time it is awarded, they have accepted a “Full-ride” (tuition, room and board and books) from a college, university, or trade/technical school, per the NCAA.

The applicant must submit the following documents which will be the basis for selection:

  1. Completed “Scholarship Application.”

  2. Completed Coach's Recommendation (MEHSAB will send link for Coach to complete form.  It will be the applicant's responsibility to ensure the coach responds to the email and completes the form)

  3. One character reference from a member of the Maine East Faculty or Staff who did not coach the student,  The letter should support the student’s qualifications for the scholarship. (MEHSAB will send link for Coach to complete form.  It will be the applicant's responsibility to ensure the coach responds to the email and completes the form)

  4. Applicant Essay:  Reflect on your sports journey from its beginning to your current level of dedication and skill.  How have these experiences shaped you both as an athlete and a person?  How do you see your sports journey impacting your future aspirations and shaping your identity beyond athletics?  This is input in a section of the application, 2,000 character limit.

 

Applicants will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Athletic Participation and Awards (athletic activities and leadership position and accomplishments) – 25%

  • Contribution to Team, (being a team player, helping others to improve), Sportsmanship (including attitude toward team members, coaches, equipment, officials, and spectators), Commitment to Excellence (putting in extra work, being dedicated and striving to be well prepared) and Leadership (providing a positive example for others, being a good role model, exhibiting good sportsmanship) – 25%

  • Non-Athletic Participation and Award (school activities, awards and leadership outside of sports, community involvement/service) – 20%

  • Essay (meeting the criteria of the application and topic of the essay) – 30%
